Constructing a typological hypothesis is a crucial step in building a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)evaluation sys-tem for personality.Based on the examination of constructing methods of personality dimension in modern psychology and traditional Chinese cultural theories on personality,this study proposed a TCM personality typology(dimension-typology)hypothesis according to the principles of yin-yang,the Five Elements,and the Eight Trigrams.This hypothesis suggested that there were similarities be-tween the Big Five Personality Model and the ancient Chinese classification of personality and constitution based on the Five Ele-ments.
