Abstract

Pediatric bronchiolitis obliterans(BO)is a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease characterized by complex etiology, prolonged and difficult recovery, and high mortality.Currently, there is no effective treatment available. However, recent findings suggest that traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has certain advantages in treating this disease.Based on the five elements theory in TCM,it is believed that the lung(metal)and kidney(water)share the same origin and mutually nourish each other. Therefore, this perspective proposes understanding pediatric BO from the angle of the generation of metal and water, investigating their internal connections and evolutionary process. In terms of treatment, following the principle of"treating disease before it arises",the ap-proach involves tonifying the lung and benefiting the kidney to strengthen the healthy qi of the body. This study is expected to pro-vides a theoretical basis for TCM in preventing and treating pediatric BO from the perspective of the lung and kidney.
