Chronic renal failure is the ultimate outcome of various progressive kidney diseases,characterized by complex pathogen-esis.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has shown significant efficacy in its treatment.Professor GAO Yanbin,whose academic philosophy follows the teachings of Master Physician Lv Renhe,has over 40 years of clinical experience.He believes that this condi-tion falls within the category of collateral diseases.For chronic renal failure,he proposes the fundamental pathogenesis of kidney es-sence deficiency,stagnation of kidney collaterals,and internal retention of turbid toxins,as well as basic therapeutic approaches in-volving tonifying qi and consolidating the kidneys,removing toxins,and dredging the collaterals.In clinical practice,syndrome dif-ferentiation and treatment are based on defining the condition as primarily deficient with secondary excess manifestations.Addition-ally,adhering to the theory of preventive treatment,Professor GAO has proposed a three-level prevention strategy for chronic kidney disease.
