Modified epoxy resin(EP)composite were prepared by incorporating the low molecular weight polyphenyl ether. The effect of PPO on dielectric properties, flame retardant properties, thermal properties, thermal conductivity properties and mechanical properties of EP composite were studied. The results showed that the molecular weight of PPO was uniform, and the molecular distribution of PPO was narrow. With the increase of PPO content, the dielectric constant vaules of EP composite decreased significantly at different frequencies, and the dielectric loss of EP composite with 15%PPO was reduced to 0.003(2M).EP/PPO system had lower heat release and better smoke suppression effect, and its thermal conductivity were improved. When the content of PPO was 30%,the peak heat release rate and total heat release rate decreased to 518.7 kW/m2 and 95.4 MJ/m2 respectively, which were 45.3%and 6.2%lower than those of pure EP;The thermal conductivity reached 0.087 4 W/(m·K),respectively,and the carbon residue increased from 15.4%to 19.0%;At the same time, the total smoke emission and the total smoke emission rate decreased by 38.6%and 38.7%,respectively,with 25%PPO.The microstructure of EP/PPO composite embritched by the liquid nitrogen was observed by SEM.It indicated that EP and PPO had a good compatibility. Therefore,PPO modified EP will not affect the excellent mechanical properties of EP itself.
