Research Progress on Biobased Coating for Paper Packaging
With the growing environmental consciousness among people worldwide,eco-friendliness and energy conservation have emerged as key global concerns.Amidst policies of plastic restriction and prohibition, substituting paper for plastic stands out as a principal approach to environmental protection and sustainable development. However, the loose and porous surface structure of paper-based materials allows for easy permeation and wetting of fibers by small molecules of water and gases, which does not satisfy the barrier functionality required for packaging materials.Additionally, paper lacks the heat-sealable properties necessary for self-adhesion through heat in industrial production processes, and its mechanical strength is hard to match that of plastics. This review primarily synthesizes research on the bio-based coating modification of paper-based packaging materials, focusing on four aspects:moisture resistance, gas barrier properties, heat sealability, and mechanical strength.
