Study on the application of Internet of Waters-based intelligent control algorithm model for the whole canal system in the irrigation area of Qinhan Canal in Ningxia
Efficient management and precision irrigation are inherent requirements for high-quality water conservancy devel-opment in the new era,and also the inevitable trend in the informationization of irrigation areas. The Internet of Waters-based intelligent control algorithm model for the whole canal achieves digital and intelligent water transmission and distribu-tion by automatically adjusting the water level and flow rate at all sluices and straight openings along the canal. The algo-rithm model, based on the integral time-delay model, establishes a set of hydraulic equations to perform quadratic optimiza-tion for multi-input and multi-output canal system control, outputting the regulatory actions of all control components. In 2021,the algorithm model was tested at the first farm canal in the Qinhan Canal Irrigation Area of Ningxia. It was subse-quently expanded and applied to the upstream of the Qinhan Canal, and then to the whole irrigation area of the Qinhan Canal.By the winter irrigation in 2023,379 integrated metering and control gates and 18 sluices have been connected, covering 3 trunk canals and 940,000 mu of irrigation area. The tree-shaped intelligent control of canal systems in the irri-gation area is realized, marked by series, parallel and hybrid connections. This algorithm model conserves water and saves labor with high precision and efficiency.Preliminary estimates based on the last 3 years of operation suggest that the man-agement efficiency can be improved by more than 50 percent, the water conservation rate can reach 8 percent, and the pre-cision of water transmission and distribution can reach more than 96 percent.
