Exploring urban micro public space renewal strategies for waterfront areas:a case study of Yanchi Village in Mentougou District,Beijing Municipality
Waterfront public spaces,as attractive urban common areas,have garnered significant attention due to their accessibility to water,diversity,and openness and played an increasingly crucial role in urban life,becoming vital venues for daily leisure,entertainment,social interaction,and fitness.However,due to historical reasons,waterfront spaces were often illegally occupied,severely impacting flood management.With the issuance of the Guidance on Strengthening the Spa-tial Control of River and Lake Shorelines,governments at all levels have taken strong measures to clear the four chaotic be-haviors around rivers and lakes.There is an urgent need to transform and repurpose the considerable amount of reclaimed micro waterfront spaces.The renewal of urban public spaces not only promotes the development and perfection of urban in-frastructure and public facilities,but also plays a significant role in enhancing local living standards,creating livable cities,and fostering local cultural life.This article aims to apply urban renewal theories to explore the renewal of micro public spaces on waterfronts.By analyzing the characteristics,spatial quality,and detailed design of these small-scale waterfront spaces,this study proposes relevant strategies for the design of urban waterfront micro public spaces.
