Flame Retardancy of New Phosphorus-nitrogen Flame Retardant on PA6
Flame retardancy of new phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardant (OP) based on aluminum dial-kylphosphinate for nylon 6 was studied. The results showed that the flame retardant had good flame retardancy for nylon 6. When the loading of OP was 25 wt% , the LOI of the nylon 6/OP composite was more than 30 and the flame retarding class meet FV-0. Compared with nylon 6, the heat release rate, mass loss rate and total heat release of the composite burned were decreased obviously. Thermogravimetric analysis results showed that the OP changed the thermal degradation of nylon 6 and produced charring reaction in advance. The char layer formed brought flame retardancy by insulating heat and oxygen. The addition of OP has a little effect on the mechanical property of nylon 6 where bending strength and modulus increased, while the tensile strength and impact energy decreased.
