Influence of the Reactive Diluent on the Mechanical Properties of the Epoxy Thermosets
With 2-Ethylhexyl glycidyl ether (XY746) as diluent and the modified isophorone diamine (IPDA) as curing agent, the epoxy thermosets were prepared by casting method. The influence of the content of the diluent on the viscosity and mechanical properties of the epoxy thermosets were investigated, and the tensile fracture mechanism was studied. The results showed that with the increment of the diluents, the viscosity of the epoxy resin decreased while the tensile strength, the elastic modulus and the compressive strength of the epoxy thermosets increased firstly and decreased then. The optimum mechanical properties were achieved when the mass fraction of diluent was 15%.The tensile strength, the elastic modulus and the compressive strength were increased by 126%,86% and 50%,respectively.The fracture morphology exhibited typical ductile fracture pattern.
