Preparation and Properties of Bismaleimide Resin Modified by Schiff Base Compound
The rapid development of the global aerospace industry has led to the expansion of the application scope and increase in the amount of composites, structural adhesives and their related materials based on bismaleimide(BMI)resins, but unmodified BMI resins have the disadvantages of high melting and curing temperatures as well as high brittleness. In this paper,Schiff base compounds with different chemical structures were synthesized and BMI resins were modified by blending with Schiff base compounds. The polymerization reaction behaviors of blends were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and the heat resistance and thermal stability of the blended system were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis(TG)and dynamic thermomechanical analysis(DMA).The results show that the addition of Schiff base can reduce the melting and curing temperatures of the blended system, which makes the curing reaction easier;the addition of Schiff base also increases the glass transition temperature(Tg)of the blended system and maintains better thermal stability.Besides, the chemical structures of Schiff base compounds have a certain influence on their reactivity with BMI and the heat resistance and thermal stability of corresponding polymers.
