Effect of Flow Additives on the Flow and Dip-Coating Properties of the Nylon 1012 Powder
Nylon 1012(PA1012)powder prepared by the cryogenic comminution was used as the base material, and five kinds of flow additives including silica and aluminum oxide with different surface properties were added to study the effects of the additives on the flow and dip-coating properties of the powder. The best flow properties of the powder can be obtained when the mass fraction of any flow additive reaches0.2%.Hydrophobic precipitated SiO2 particles(D17)have low hygroscopicity and good dispersibility between nylon particles, which has the best effects on improving the flow performances of nylon powder. But it is easy to foam in the dip-coating process, resulting to bad flatness and smoothness of the films.Although fumed aluminum oxide nanoparticles(Alu C)have much smaller particle size, they can effectively eliminate the electrostatic force generated by the powder friction and improve the fluidity of the powder. No negative effect is found on the film obtained by the dip-coating method, which is more suitable for PA1012 powder.
