Odor Characterizations of Homo-polypropylene Products Produced by the Novolen Process
In this paper, the artificial sniffing, headspace method and bag method were used to detect the odor grade, total carbon, the species and contents of pentachloral and organic volatiles in the homogeneous polypropylene 1100N powder and granular products produced by two production lines in Ningxia Coal Industry Co.,Ltd.Through the comparative analysis of organic volatiles and odor performances, the sources of odor were explored, the effective ways to remove the odor were found. The results show that there are many kinds of organic volatiles in Novolen process polypropylene 1100N,including benzene, aldehyde, ester, acid, ketone, aliphatic hydrocarbon and others, most of them are aliphatic hydrocarbon.By injecting a small amount of low-pressure steam into the purifying bin and adding a small amount of demineralized water at the throat of the extruder, the small-molecular polar volatiles such as aldehyde, alcohol and acid in the system could be effectively removed, effectively reducing the odor grade.
