Injection Mold Designs for the Lower Shell of the Cochlear Implant Repeater
Repeater is an important component of cochlear implants. The designs and manufactures of their lower shells have a significant impact on the stability and reliability of the entire system. However, the traditional injection molding cycle for the lower shells of the repeaters is relatively long(29.5 s),which could easily cause problems such as warping and material shortage during the injection molding process, affecting the stability and reliability of the products. The unreasonable design of injection molds is the main reason for the above problems. This paper achieves the production and molding of the lower shells of the cochlear implant repeaters through reasonable material selections, new mold designs, and optimized injection molding process controls.By using Siemens NX(UG)3D modeling technology for fine construction and combining with automatic computer aided design(CAD)2D design methods,a design scheme for a submerged needle gate was constructed. The demolding system, cooling system, exhaust device, inclined top mechanism, and fixed mold slider lateral parting structure were scientifically and reasonably set up.The results show that the injection molding cycle of the product is only 25.65 s,and there are no defects such as warping and material shortage. The mold designed in this article could effectively solve the problems such as long injection cycle and high defect rate in the traditional injection processes of the product, which achieves efficient and stable product productions, and provides design ideas for the mold designs of similar products.
