Synthesis and Properties of Polymeric Antioxidants Based on Polyethylene Glycol Bridged Hindered Phenol
To improve the adverse phenomenon that antioxidants are easy to migrate and precipitate in polyolefin products, taking polyethylene glycol(PEG)as a bridging group,β-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionyl chloride was used as a functionalized group to synthesize the polymeric antioxidant of PEG2000-phenol through triethylamine catalytic reaction. The structure of PEG2000-phenol was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. The effects of PEG2000-phenol on the processing stability, thermal stability and migration resistance of metallocene linear low density polyethylene(mLLDPE)were investigated by thermogravimetric analyzer, melt flow rate tester, and ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer. The results show that the compatibility between PEG2000-phenol and mLLDPE is nice. After the addition of PEG2000-phenol,the melt flow rate of mLLDPE decreases, the initial weight loss temperature increases to 436℃,and the oxidation induction period increases significantly, indicating that the processing stability and thermal stability of mLLDPE are improved. The results of migration resistance experiments show that PEG2000-phenol has good migration resistance, and its migration resistance in mLLDPE is significantly better than that of the commercial antioxidant Irganox 1098.
