Preparation and Properties of Poly(butylene succinate)/Calcium Sulfate Whisker Composites
Calcium sulfate whisker(CSW)was prepared from waste phosphogypsum by the atmospheric acidification method. After the surface of CSW was organically modified via using silane coupling agent, the modified CSW(mCSW)was prepared. Then polybutylene succinate(PBS)/mCSW composites with different mCSW mass fractions were prepared through the melt blending of PBS and mCSW.The microstructures and properties of PBS/mCSW composites were investigated. The results show that mCSW is better dispersed in the PBS matrix when the mCSW mass fraction is less than 10%.When the mCSW mass fraction increases from 0%to 10%,the crystallization temperatures of PBS/mCSW composites increase from 62.3 ℃ to 67.6 ℃,and the degrees of crystallinity increase from 33.6%to 52.4%,illustrating that the mCSW could play a role of heterogeneous nucleation. However, the crystallization temperature and degree of crystallinity show downward trends when the mass fraction of mCSW exceeds 10%.Both Vicat softening temperatures and initial thermal decomposition temperatures of PBS/mCSW composites increase first and then decrease with the increase of mCSW mass fraction. When the mCSW mass fraction is 10%,the Vicat softening temperature of composite reaches the maximum value of 101.4 ℃,and the initial thermal decomposition temperature reaches the maximum value of 398.9 ℃.The results of mechanical properties show that the tensile strength and elongation at break also increase first and then decrease with the increase of mCSW mass fraction. When the mCSW mass fraction is 10%,the tensile strength and elongation at break of PBS/mCSW composite reach the maximum values of 31.7 MPa and 18.3%,respectively.Moreover,the notch impact strength decreases first and then tends to be stable with the increase of mCSW mass fraction.
