Properties of Continuous Carbon Fiber Reinforced Liquid Crystal Polymer Laminates
Continuous carbon fiber(CCF)reinforced liquid crystal polymer(LCP)prepreg tapes were prepared by a self-designed and assembled continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic prepreg tape melt impregnation device, and then the laminates were prepared by hot pressing of prepreg tapes. The universal material testing machine, scanning electron microscope(SEM),dynamic mechanical analyzer(DMA)and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC)were used to study the effects of different fiber mass fractions on the mechanical properties,cross-section microstructures, dynamic mechanical behaviors and melting crystallization behaviors of laminates. The mechanical properties test results show that the tensile strength, bending strength and interlaminar shear strength of laminates increase with the increase of fiber mass fraction in a certain range. When the fiber mass fraction is 39.6%,the tensile strength, bending strength and interlaminar shear strength of the laminate are 788.43,395.08 and 31.42 MPa,respectively, which are 5.3,2.1 and 2.9 times higher than those of the LCP pure material. The SEM results show that when the fiber mass fraction is 39.6%,CCFs are completely coated by the LCP resin matrix, and the interfacial bonding between the fiber and the resin is better.DMA results show that the storage modulus and loss modulus of laminates increase with the increase of fiber mass fraction.DSC results show that the CCF addition significantly increases the melting temperature and crystallization temperature of the laminates.
