Research and demonstration of the stress release method with a water hammer drill to mitigate tunnel rockburst risks
During tunnel construction, rockbursts pose significant safety risks to workers and create severe hazards to construction progress.Currently, the prevention and mitigation of rockbursts have become a global technical challenge, especially in areas prone to frequent and high-intensity rockbursts, which directly impact the safety and continuous operation of tunnel boring machines(TBMs).To address this challenge effectively,a water hammer drill was used for preemptive stress release testing in the construction of the second excavation section of TBM in the south of Qinling Mountains in the Diversion Project of Han River to Wei River.By collecting and analyzing test data, preliminary criteria were established to determine the geological conditions under which preemptive stress release drilling with a water hammer drill is necessary, and corresponding construction parameters were formulated. These findings provide strong practical guidance for tunnel construction, ensuring the safe and efficient advancement of projects.
