Numerical simulation of wind field characteristics in large shallow lakes with high spatial and temporal resolution:A case study of chaohu lake
[Objective]The wind field of large shallow lakes is one of the key factors affecting the flow field,eutrophication of water and the migration and accumulation of algal blooms.However,it is difficult to effectively capture the rapid changes in space and time of the wind field of the whole lake only relying on the observation data of meteorological stations.[Methods]In order to accurately characterize the high-frequency wind field in the lake and identify its spatio-temporal variation characteristics,the Chaohu Lake was taken as the research object,and the mesoscale weather forecast model and geospatial analysis technology were used to simulate and analyze the wind field variation process with high spatio-temporal resolution in 2019 by comprehensively utilizing meteorological observation data,global reanalysis data and geographic static data.[Results]The result show that,the wind speed in the Chaohu area gradually weakens from east to west,from south to north,and from the lake to the land surface;the dominant wind direction of Chaohu Lake is east wind and easterly wind,and the dominant wind speed ranges from level 2 to level 4.In addition,the average wind speed on the lake surface is the highest in November,followed by December and the lowest in May.The average wind speed on the lake surface in different seasons is winter,autumn,summer and spring in descending order.[Conclusion]Chaohu exhibits a cold(warm)lake effect during the day(night),and its wind field experiences a transi-tion from land breeze to lake breeze at 6 am and 11 pm.At the same time,the western half of the lake is significantly influenced by lake-land breezes and urban heat islands,and a distinct lakefront wind boundary can be observed during the summer,pene-trating inland for about 4.7-9 km.Besides,the eastern half of the lake is significantly affected by the valley breeze,and the low wind speed zone is easy to form in the lake east of the southeastern mountains,and the high wind speed zone is easy to form near the lake mouth due to the funnelling.Through this study,we can further understand the characteristics of Chaohu regional wind field and provide technical support for Chaohu water ecological environment management.
