Applicability analysis of online flow monitoring using ADCP dual-vertical method with buoy installation
To identify a reliable method for online flow measurement with high accuracy and ease of installation and maintenance, this study explores the applicability of the new technology of using the ADCP dual-vertical method with buoy installation for online flow monitoring.Flow is calculated based on the hydraulic characteristics of the river channel and the velocity measurements at two verticals on both sides of the thalweg. For online flow monitoring in midstream and downstream river channels,a flow calculation model based on the energy slope principle is adopted using the dual-vertical method, with an ADCP mounted on a buoy to enhance adaptability.Comparative analyses across various types of hydrological stations indicate the feasibility of this method. The approach performs well under complex conditions, including tidal influence, navigation, sluices, culverts, large pumping stations, and curved river channels. This study provides a valuable reference for online flow measurement methods in midstream and downstream river channels.
