A maintenance modeling method is proposed to solve the maintenance strategy problem for multi-state systems by comprehensively considering hidden failures,competing failure modes,imperfect inspection and imperfect maintenance.Firstly,the competing failure modes of a multi-state system is described and the condition-based maintenance strategies are given.Secondly,the loss costs due to hidden failures are deduced.Subsequently,the effects of imperfect inspection and imperfect maintenance for defects are modeled,and then two kinds of system renewal scenarios and the corresponding probabilities are analyzed and calculated.The maintenance model of the expected cost rate is constructed based on those probabilities and cost parameters.Finally,the validity of the proposed model is analyzed through a numerical example.The results show that the optimal inspection strategy can be found by minimizing the expected cost rate.
