Effects of aerobic exercise on reproductive performance, serum immune indexes, and milk quality of Tan sheep ewe
In order to investigate the impact of aerobic exercise during different seasons on the reproductive performance, serum immune indexes, and milk quality of Tan sheep ewes,a total of 120 healthy Tan sheep ewes born in 2017 and having already given birth twice were randomly assigned to four groups:Experimental group 1,experimental group 2,control group 1,and control group 2,with 30 ewes in each group.Natural estrus rates for the experimental group 1 and control group 1 were determined in June 2022,while natural estrus rates for the experimental group 2 and control group 2 were assessed in September 2022.Blood samples were collected from ewes in experimental group 2 and control group 2 for the analysis of serum immune indexes, and milk quality was also evaluated. The experiment lasted for 12 months.Ewes in the experimental groups engaged in daily aerobic exercise of 4~6 km along the ecological pasture fence in addition to free movement within the pen, while ewes in the control groups were raised in the entire barn. The results showed that the natural estrus rates during non-breeding seasons for the experimental group 1 and control group 1 were 6.6%and 3.3%,respectively,reaching 53.5%and 24.1%after PMSG+PGF2α treatment. For the experimental group 2 and control group 2 during the breeding season, natural estrus rates were 36.6%and 16.6%,respectively,increasing to 84.2%and 60%after PMSG+PGF2α treatment. The protein content in the colostrum of the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the regular milk of the experimental group and the regular milk of the control group(P<0.05).The concentrations of IL-4,IL-5,IL-8,IgA,IgE,IgG,IgM,and IFN-γ in regular milk of the experimental group were higher than in colostrum, but the levels of the above indexes in the regular milk of the control group were lower than in colostrum(P>0.05).Compared with the control group, the ewes in the experimental group showed increased levels of IL-2,IL-5,IgA,and IgM in serum on the day of lambing(P>0.05).The study suggests that daily aerobic exercise of 4~6 km for reproductive the ewes can increase estrus rates, improve milk quality, and enhance the overall health of breeding ewes.
