Calcium metabolism mechanism and its impact on related metabolic disorders in periparturient hypocalcemia of periparturient females
During the perinatal period, changes in the metabolism of proteins, minerals, and energy in periparturient dams can lead to calcium loss and imbalance, subsequently causing hypocalcemia in periparturient dams.Clinical and subclinical hypocalcemia not only affects the reproductive performance of dams but also influences the nutritional metabolism of the periparturient organism, further triggering other physiological changes and diseases in periparturient dams, such as ketosis, displaced abomasum, dystocia, mastitis, and uterine diseases. Therefore,a comprehensive and in-depth study of the calcium metabolism mechanism during periparturient hypocalcemia and its impact on related metabolic diseases is of significant importance for ensuring the health of periparturient dams and improving their reproductive performance. This article elaborates on the etiology and current status of periparturient hypocalcemia in dams, calcium metabolism mechanisms, comprehensive preventive and control measures,as well as the correlations with other diseases. It serves as a reference for reducing the incidence of periparturient hypocalcemia in dams and improving feeding management.
