Effects of Panax notoginseng stems and leaves extract on growth performance, serum biochemical indexes and intestinal health of weaned piglets
The purpose of the experiment was to study the effects of Panax notoginseng stems and leaves extract on the growth performance, serum biochemical indexes, and intestinal health of weaned piglets.Twenty-four 21-day-old weaned piglets were randomly divided into three groups with eight replicates in each group and one piglet in each replicate. The control group was fed with a basal diet, while the low dose group and high dose group were fed with 0.2%and 0.4%of Panax notoginseng stems and leaves extract, respectively. The trial period was 21 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the average daily gain of weaned piglets in the high dose group increased significantly(P<0.05),while the activities of lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate oxaloacetic aminotransferase, and the ratio of aspartate oxaloacetic aminotransferase to aspartate oxaloacetic aminotransferase in the low and high dose groups decreased significantly(P<0.05).The high dose group could significantly increase the villus height of duodenum, jejunum, and ileum(P<0.05),and significantly increase the villus-concealed ratio of duodenum and ileum(P<0.05).The mRNA expression of colonic interleukin-12 p35(1L-12 p35),interleukin-12 p40(IL-12 p40),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and interferon-γ(IFN-γ)decreased significantly in the low dose group and high dose group(P<0.05).The results show that adding Panax notoginseng stems and leaves extract in diet can improve the growth performance and intestinal health of weaned piglets, and adding 0.4%Panax notoginseng stems and leaves extract is more suitable.
