Effects of compound Chinese herbal on physiological indexes, growth performance, and serum biochemical indexes of beef cattle under heat stress
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of compound Chinese herbal on physiological indexes, growth performance, and serum biochemical indexes of beef cattle under heat stress.Twenty-four fattening Xia'nan cattle with good body condition and similar body weight were randomly divided into four groups, with six replicates in each group and one cattle in each replicate. The control group was fed with a basal diet, while the experimental group were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.5%,1.0%and 1.5%compound Chinese herbal, respectively. The trial period was 30 days. The results showed that the THI in the cowshed was greater than 72 during the whole test period, and the cattle were in a state of heat stress. On the 20th and 30th day,the respiratory rate of 1.0%group and 1.5%group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the dry matter intake and average daily gain of 1.0%group increased significantly(P<0.05),and the feed-to-weight ratio of 0.5%group and 1.0%group decreased significantly(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the concentrations of TP,ALB,GLB,T-AOC,and GSH-Px,SOD activities in 1.0%group increased significantly(P<0.05),while the concentrations of BUN,GLU,and MDA decreased significantly(P<0.05),and the concentrations of IgG and IL-6 in 1.0%group and 1.5%group increased significantly(P<0.05).The results show that adding compound Chinese herbal to diet can improve the heat stress response of beef cattle, and the better effect is 1.0%.
