Effects of Echinacea purpurea granules on growth performance, organ index, and serum biochemical indicators of Hy-Line Brown layer chicks
The purpose of the experiment was to investigate the effects of Echinacea purpurea granules on the growth performance, organ index, and serum biochemical indicators of Hy-Line Brown layer chicks.A total of 153 healthy 16-day-old Hy-Line Brown layer chicks with similar weight were randomly divided into three groups with three replicates in each group and 17 chicks in each replicate. The control group was fed with basal diet, and the experimental group 1 and group 2 were fed with 1 g/kg and 2 g/kg of Echinacea purpurea granules respectively for 14 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the average daily gain of the experimental group 2 increased by 1.6%,the average daily feed intake decreased by 1.1%,and the feed-to-weight ratio decreased by 2.7%.Compared with the control group, the thymus weight of the experimental group 2 increased significantly(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the cardiac index of the experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 increased by 4.35%and 0.62%,respectively,the bursa index increased by 5.00%and 12.89%,respectively,and the thymus index significantly increased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the serum GLB,TP,and GLU contentrations of the experimental group 2 significantly increased(P<0.05),while the TG content significantly decreased(P<0.05).The study indicates that adding Echinacea purpurea granules to the diet can improve the growth performance, enhance the organ index, improve the serum biochemical indicators of Hy-Line Brown layer chicks, and thereby further improve the immune function, with the addition of 2 g/kg being the most effective.
