Research progress on probiotic mechanisms of Bacillus and its probiotic effects on fish
Intensive artificial fish farming may increase the risk of bacterial diseases, and thus it is very urgent to propose the effective prevention and control strategies research.Probiotics are environmentally friendly alternatives to antibiotics, with capabilities such as colonizing the host's intestine and improving the structure of the host's gut microbiota.Among of them,Bacillus species are a group of Gram-positive,flagellated,spore-forming rod-shaped bacteria. They are characterized by a wide distribution,high-temperature tolerance, acid resistance, strong enzyme secretion, and good broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.Bacillus can activate fish immune modulation, improve the structure of fish gut microbiota, and promote fish growth. The article reviewed the probiotic mechanisms of Bacillus, such as the production of digestive enzymes, activation of host immune modulation, competition for host intestinal adhesion sites and nutrients, and secretion of antimicrobial compounds. The roles of Bacillus in improving the structure of fish gut microbiota and enhancing the quality of fish meat were also summarized. It will provide a reference for the application of Bacillus in fish aquaculture.
