Study on feeding value of different sweet sorghum varieties grown in Guangdong
The study aimed to select sweet sorghum varieties suitable for planting in Guangdong with high forage value, and compared the agronomic traits and nutritional values of Hercules,Lüjuren,Desheng,B6,and Sorghum bicolor×S.sudanense.The results showed that the dry matter yield of the five varieties tested ranged from 4.28 t/hm2 to 20.35 t/hm2,with B6 being the highest. The crude protein yield of B6 was 1.14 t/hm2,which was significantly higher than that of other varieties(P<0.05).The relative forage value of Sorghum bicolor × S.sudanense was 90.64,which was significantly higher than the rest of the varieties(P<0.05).B6 had a higher content of water-soluble carbohydrates(16.17%DM),and the highest content of nitrogen-free extractives. The study indicates that taking into account agronomic traits, nutritional components, and sugar composition,B6 is more suitable for cultivation in Guangdong.
