Using panel data from major meat sheep producing provinces in China from 2011 to 2022,this study empirically examines whether market-oriented reforms can improve the cost efficiency of free range meat sheep farming.Research showed that market-oriented reforms had a significant positive impact on the cost efficiency of free range sheep farming,indicating that market-oriented reforms could improve the cost efficiency of free range sheep farming.The threshold effect test showed that the market-oriented reform had a non-linear impact on the marginal increase in cost efficiency of free range sheep farming.Heterogeneity testing showed that compared to the central and western regions,the market-oriented reform in the eastern region had the strongest impact on the cost efficiency of free range sheep farming.Therefore,the article explores the classification and promotion of market-oriented allocation reform of rural factors,and enhances the synergy of market-oriented reform according to local conditions,in order to promote the high-quality development of free range sheep farming.
