Effects of honeysuckle extract on growth performance, immunity, and antioxidant function of Wugang copper geese
The study aimed to explore the effects of varying levels of honeysuckle extract on the growth performance, serum immune indicators, and antioxidant indices of Wugang copper geese.A total of 400 Wugang copper geese with similar body weights and aged 28 days were selected and randomly divided into four groups according to a single-factor experimental design, with five replicates in each group and 20 geese in each replicate. The Wugang copper geese in each group were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0,100,200,400 mg/kg honeysuckle extract. The pre-feeding period was one week and the formal experiment period was six weeks. The results showed that compared to the control group, the final weight and average daily weight gain of Wugang copper geese in experimental groups 2 and 3 were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the feed to gain ratio were significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared to the control group, the serum levels of immunoglobulin G and interleukin-10 in geese from experimental groups 2 and 3 were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the level of interleukin-6 decreased(P<0.05).The serum immunoglobulin M levels in all experimental groups were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α were significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared to the control group, the malondialdehyde content in experimental groups 2 and 3 were significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the activities of total superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase were significantly increased(P<0.05).The study indicates that feeding with honeysuckle extract can improve growth performance, enhance immune function, and increase antioxidant capacity of Wugang copper geese, with an optimal addition level is 200~400 mg/kg.
