Effects of HMBi and NCG on immune indicators of colostrum in cows, growth performance and plasma indicators of newborn calves
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of adding 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutyrate isopropyl(HMBi)and N-carbamylglutamic acid(NCG)during the perinatal period on the immune indicators of colostrum in cows, growth performance and plasma indexes of newborn calves.Selected 100 perinatal cows with similar age, parity, body condition, previous parity milk production and due date, and randomly divided them into 2 groups with 50 replicates per group and 1 cow per replicate. The control group was fed with basic feed, while the experimental group was fed with basic feed+30 g/(head·d)HMBi+20 g/(head·d)NCG.The experimental period was 42 days, with 21 days in the early perinatal period and 21 days in the postpartum period. The results showed that compared with the control group, the content of tumor necrosis factor-α in colostrum of cows in the experimental group significantly increased(P<0.05),the birth weights of calves increased by 1.12 kg(P>0.05),the chest circumferences and tube circumferences of newborn calves significantly increased(P<0.01),and the total protein content in the plasma of newborn calves significantly increased(P<0.05).The study indicates that supplementing HMBi and NCG during the perinatal period can significantly increase the chest and tube circumference of newborn calves, the trend of increasing the birth weight of calves.
