Effects of Chinese herbal compound on rumen fermentation parameters, digestive enzymes, and microbial composition of sheep
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of Chinese herbal compound on rumen fermentation parameters, digestive enzymes, and microbial composition of sheep.Thirty three-month-old male Dorper×Small-tailed Han crossbred lambs with body weight of(20.81±1.27)kg were randomly divided into three groups with 10 replicates in each group and each replicate consisting of one lamb. The dosage of Chinese herbal compound was 0(control group),10(Z1 group)and 30 g/d(Z3 group). The preliminary period lasted for 15 days, and the formal experimental period lasted for 50 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the ammonia nitrogen content and the ratio of acetic acid to propionic acid in the Chinese herb compound group were significantly lower(P<0.05).The concentrations of total volatile fatty acids, propionic acid, and microbial protein were significantly increased(P<0.05).The concentrations of total volatile fatty acids and propionic acid in the Z3 group were significantly higher than that in the Z1 group(P<0.05).Acetic acid in Z3 group was significantly higher than that in Z1 group and control group(P<0.05).The cellulase activity in the Z3 group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).The pectinase and α-amylase activities in the Z2 and Z3 groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The protease activity in the Chinese herbal compound group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).The total bacterial count in Z1 and Z3 groups were significantly greater than that of the control group(P<0.05),the Z3 group was significantly higher than that in Z1 group(P<0.05).The total number of methanogens in the control group was significantly greater than that in Z3 group(P<0.05).The Ruminococcus flavefaciens,Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens, and Ruminobacter amylophilus in Z3 group were significantly higher than that in control group and Z1 group(P<0.05).The results show that the supplementation of Chinese herbal compound in the diet of sheep can improve the digestive performance and the composition of rumen microorganisms, and the optimal supplemental level is 30 g/d.
