Effects of forage rape on growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, and economic benefit of mutton sheep
The study was conducted to investigate the effects of substituting different proportions of peanut seedlings with forage rape on the growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, and economic benefits of mutton sheep.Forty-eight three-month-old healthy Hu sheep with a body weight of about 20 kg were randomly divided into four groups, with four replicates per group and three mutton sheep per replicate. The coarse feed of the control group was peanut seedlings, and the forage rape was used to replace 25%,50%,and 100%peanut seedlings in the experimental groups, respectively. The pre-feeding period was seven days, and the formal test period was 60 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the total weight gain and average daily gain of mutton sheep in 50%forage rape group were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the ratio of feed to gain was significantly decreased(P<0.05),and forage rape had no significant effect on feed intake of mutton sheep(P>0.05).There were no significant effects on body height, pipe girth and chest girth(P>0.05),but there was a tendency to increase body diagonal length.Compared with the control group, the apparent digestibility of crude protein, dry matter, and acid detergent fiber of mutton sheep in 50%forage rape group were significantly increased(P<0.05),and the digestibility of neutral detergent fiber of mutton sheep in 25%and 50%forage rape groups was significantly increased(P<0.05).The serum cholesterol content of mutton sheep in 50%forage rape group was decreased(P<0.05),and serum urea nitrogen content of mutton sheep in 25%and 50%forage rape groups was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The weight gain income of mutton sheep in 25%,50%,and 100%forage rape groups increased by 11.66%,28.11%and 12.53%,respectively,and the breeding profit increased by 27.04%,65.78%and 36.66%,respectively.The study indicates that the forage rape can improve the nutrient apparent digestibility of mutton sheep, improve growth performance and increase breeding profits, and the better effect is to replace peanut seedlings with 50%.
