Effects of Periplaneta americana residue replacing expanded soybean meal on growth performance, immunity, intestinal morphology, and barrier function of Sanhuang chickens
The experiment was conducted to study the effects of Periplaneta americana residue replacing expanded soybean meal on the growth performance, immunity, intestinal morphology, and barrier function of Sanhuang chickens.A total of three hundred 30-day-old Sanhuang chickens were randomly divided into six treatment groups with five replicates in each treatment group and ten chickens in each replicate(half male and half female). The control group(Group A)was fed a basal diet.Groups B,C,D,E,and F were used 4.20%,8.28%,12.32%,16.40%,and 20.58%of Periplaneta americana residue to replace the expanded soybean meal in the basal diet, respectively. The pre-test period was one week and the formal test period was 6 weeks. The results showed that compared to Group A,the average daily gain(ADG)of Group F was significantly reduced(P<0.05).The level of serum immunoglobulin A(IgA)in Sanhuang chickens in Groups D and F was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the level of serum immunoglobulin M(IgM)in Group D was significantly increased(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the levels of intestinal mucosal immunoglobulins G(IgG),IgA,IgM,and immune organ index among all groups(P>0.05).Compared to Group A,the level of secretory immunoglobulin A(SIgA)in Group F was significantly reduced(P<0.05),the crypt depth in the duodenum and jejunum of Group D was significantly reduced(P<0.05),and the villus height and width in the ileum were significantly increased(P<0.05).The study indicates that Periplaneta americana residue can be used as a functional protein feed for animals. It is recommended that 12.32%Periplaneta americana residue be added to the diet of Sanhuang chickens.
