Composition Analysis and Performance Testing of Plastic Outer Barrels for Drum Washing Machines
We conducted an analysis on the composition of the plastic outer barrel of a drum washing machine, along with its thermal and mechanical properties,in order to find evidence for the inclusion of recycled materials in the composite materials used for plastic outer barrels. The results of infrared spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy analysis indicate that the composite material for plastic outer barrels is based on polypropylene as the raw material,in which neither benzene plasticizers nor heavy metal elements have been discovered. The observation results of spherical crystal morphology indicate that the crystal size of the composite material is small. The thermal performance analysis results show that the melting point of the composite material is slightly lower than that of pure polypropylene, but the maximum thermal decomposition temperature is close to that of pure polypropylene and polypropylene recycled materials. The mechanical performance test results show that the tensile strength, bending strength, and impact strength of the plastic outer barrel crushing material are close to those of commercially available polypropylene glass fiber composite materials. The structural analysis methods and the results of static mechanical performance tests indicate that the composite materials used for plastic outer barrels of drum washing machines currently do not contain any recycled materials.
