Application of proteomics in animal-derived traditional Chinese medicines
Animal-derived medicines(AdM)are important parts of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The compositions of AdM are complex and the active ingredients are not easily analyzed, which makes the study of the mechanism of AdM proceeds slowly, and difficult to assess the quality of AdM and guarantee safety in clinical use. With the rapid development of multidimensional chromatography, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics and other technologies, proteomics has gradually become a powerful tool for the AdM.Qualitative and quantitative proteomics allows the analysis of total proteins extracted from animal or cellular samples after drug treatment at a holistic level, and has significant advantages in obtaining the fingerprint of TCM,discovering the potential active ingredients and clarifying the drug targets and pathways. This paper presents the main process of proteomics technology and its application in the identification and quality analysis of varieties of AdM,the maintenance of sustainable development and the utilization of Chinese medicine resources, and the mechanism of effective substances from AdM,providing new ideas and research methods based on proteomics for the in-deep studies of animal-derived traditional Chinese medicine.
