Research progress on nitrative stress and cardiovascular diseases
Nitrative stress contributes to protein nitrification leading to cytotoxicity, cell damage and apoptosis. In addition,it plays the most crucial role in the pathophysiological processes, including mitochondrial damage and production of inflammatory factors.Recently, mounting evidence supports that nitrative stress plays vital part in the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, hypertension, heart failure and diabetic cardiomyopathy. This paper introduces the biological properties of nitrative stress and mechanism of nitrative stress on cell damage, and analyzes the role of nitrative stress in the occurrence and development of a variety of cardiovascular diseases, with the aim of providing new ideas and methods for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
