Circuit organization and function of the lateral mammillary nucleus
Lateral mammillary nucleus is the lateral division of the mammillary body,an important nucleus within the posterior ventral hypothalamus. It mainly receives input from the subiculum and Gudden's dorsal tegmental nucleus, and projects densely to anterior thalamic nuclei and Gudden's dorsal tegmental nucleus.Previous studies revealed that it played important roles in head direction and spatial navigation. In this review,we summarize recent progress and the current state of knowledge regarding the circuit organization and function of the lateral mammillary nucleus.
