Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase(GGPPS)is a branching enzyme of the mevalonate pathway, involved in protein isoprenylation.By mediating multiple cell signaling pathways,GGPPS plays a key role in the biological function of cells and the pathogenesis of diseases, and regulates the pathological progression of various diseases. There is increasing evidence that GGPPS is abnormally expressed in tumors and that expression levels are closely related to prognosis, thus promising to become an emerging bio-indicator for the early diagnosis and treatment of tumors. This review focuses on the biological functions of GGPPS,its role in tumors and the application of its inhibitors in tumors, seeking its future potential value in the prevention and treatment of oncological diseases.
