Molecular mechanisms underlying the responses of plant roots to low P stress
Phosphorus (P) is one of the essential nutrient elements for plant growth.P availability is often limited in most soils, and therefore is difficult to meet the demand for plant growth. It is an effective strategy to improve crop P efficiency through genetic modifications in order to solve the problems due to insufficient P supply from soils.Root is the main organ for nutrient uptake, and determines P acquisition and utilization efficiency in plants. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms of roots in response to low P stress is the base to improve crop P efficiency through genetic modifications. Here we summarize recent progresses in root responses to low P stress.
