Implications and mechanisms of O-GlcNAcylation on anti-cancer therapy efficacy
O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine(O-GlcNAcylation)is one of the protein translation modifications(PTMs)that regulate a variety of fundamental cellular biological processes, including gene transcription, signal transduction, stress response and cell metabolism. The role of dysregulated O-GlcNAcylation in tumorigenesis has been recognized, but its role in the anti-cancer therapy efficacy has not been elucidated. Therefore, this article reviews the latest evidence that dysregulated O-GlcNAcylation affects anti-cancer therapy efficacy, analyzes several possible mechanisms by which dysregulated O-GlcNAcylation levels affect anti-cancer therapy efficacy, and discusses the possibility of targeting O-GlcNAcylation as a cancer therapeutic sensitizer, aiming to provide theoretical references to improve the efficacy of anti-cancer therapy.
