Application of Cardiovascular Nanomedicine in Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
Vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs)have the function of regulating vascular tension and main-taining vascular architecture, and their dysfunction is closely related to the onset and progression of cardio-vascular maladies.Nanomedicine refers to the application of nanomaterials in medical sciences, which is wi-dely used in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, tumors and other diseases due to its abi-lity to overcome the pharmacological impediments in conventional treatment modalities, such as poor drug selectivity and low bioavailability.Based on the key roles of VSMCs in the cardiovascular system and the optimization potential of nanomedicine in the traditional drug delivery systems, this paper reviewed the pathological mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases caused by anomalous phenotypic alterations, malignant proliferation and migration of VSMCs,and summarized the utility of nanomedicine in targeting VSMC func-tions as a therapeutic strategy against cardiovascular disorders, such as targeted drug delivery, autologous therapeutic interventions, and the fabrication of tissue engineering scaffolds. The paper also discussed the imminent challenges and future trajectories of cardiovascular nanomedicine, aiming to provide potential strategies for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
