The Use of Chinese Traditional Taotie Patterns in Cartoon Character Designs
Taotie pattern is one of the main patterns in bronze ritual vessels,which combines the characteristics of beasts in nature and people's imagination,represents the wisdom of ancient working people,and also has rich cultural connotation and great aesthetic value.In this paper,we study the development history of Taotie pattern,analyze its cultural connotation and aesthetic characteristics,and extract the design elements of Taotie pattern to design cartoon characters based on the four traditional beasts in China.The purpose of this attempt is to extract and transform the Taotie pattern on the basis of retaining its original traditional meaning and integrate it into the character design.
