A study on residents cognition of urban memory in historic and cultural city:A case of Xinjiang county,Shanxi province
Urban memory is the soul of a city.In the city,the hidden non-material elements such as built information,place names evolution,historical celebrities and historical events,and the explicit material elements such as historical blocks,cultural preservation units,terrain and rivers together constitute the urban memory.As an important carrier of urban memory,historic and cultural city has certain characteristics and representativeness.Therefore,Xinjiang County,a historic and cultural city of Shanxi Province,was selected as the research object,and the cognitive elements of urban memory were summarized as 2 first-order variables,14 second-order variables and 73 third-order variables from the perspective of residents.Through 234 validated questionnaires and in-depth field interviews,the cognitive characteristics of historic and cultural cities were explored with relevant mathematical models,so as to realize the memory inheritance of historic and cultural cities.Research results:①Overall level of residents perception is high,and awareness of non-material factors is higher than that of material elements,with 0.75 and 0.70 respectively;②In the category of non-material elements,residents have highest awareness of drum music in Jiangzhou,with a value of 0.94,and lowest awareness of historical events,with a value of 0.43;③In the category of material elements,highest perception is historical center,with the value of 0.89,while lowest cognition is overall pattern of ancient city,with the value of 0.46;④Education level has a significant influence on the difference of residents'perception level.Occupational and monthly income are important factors,while age and gender only have a weak influence.
