The accumulation of toxic and harmful gases such as hydrogen sulfide in the circulating water pipelines of coastal thermal power plants not only affects the normal operation of the cooling system, but also poses a serious threat to the surrounding environment and the health of on-site workers, which is a major challenge to the safe operation of coastal thermal power plants. Therefore, studying the mechanism of hydrogen sulfide production in the circulating water pipelines of coastal thermal power plants and proposing specific preventive measures are the scientific issues that urgently need to be addressed.According to the scientific problem that how hydrogen sulfide is produced and its prevention and control, this article introduces the serious harm of hydrogen sulfide to the environment, equipment, and on-site workers, and summarizes the mechanism of hydrogen sulfide production in the different types of natural environment. Then, this article points out the microbially mediated sulfate reduction that is the dominant factor to the production of hydrogen sulfide in the circulating water pipelines, and looks forward to the prevention and control measures of hydrogen sulfide based on the domestic and foreign research progress. This article has important guiding significance for the risk prevention and control of toxic and harmful gases such as hydrogen sulfide generated in the circulating water pipelines of coastal thermal power plants.
