A Visual Analysis of the Evolution and Hotspots of International Blended Course Topic Studies—Based on WoS Journal Article Data from 2001 to 2023
The digital transformation of higher education aims at the development of high quality.Blended course,as a new type of course form,is an important tool to promote the high-quality development of higher education.Clarifying the international blended course evolution and hotspots can help to crack the problem of blended course quality development in the context of digital transformation. This study takes 2590 research papers on the topic of blended courses from 2001 to 2023 in the WoS Core Collection database as a sample, and analyzes them using the visual analysis software CiteSpace 6.2.R4.It is found that blended courses have gone through three stages of evolution, namely, the slow development period, the continuous development period and the rapid in-depth development period, from focusing on technology to focusing on course theory, design, implementation and effect, and then to focusing in-depth on blended learning design, learning strategies, influencing factors, technical support, and practical challenges, which realizes the shift from technology to human-centered needs, and pushes forward the development of blended course theory and practice. The research hotspots form a research network of blended courses that focuses on students'perception and experience and emphasizes knowledge attainment and skill enhancement, connecting research on blended course design, implementation, evaluation,as well as community of inquiry, technical support and environmental support. Finally, based on the stance of the curriculum, these hotspots provide insights into the theoretical, practical, and methodological studies of blended courses in China in order to promote the high-quality development of blended courses.
