摘要

颗粒阵列是实现具有负折射率的超材料的重要结构之一.与其他类型的超材料相比(如开口环、纳米线等),按照特定的结构与材料参数设计的颗粒阵列在实现负折射方面具有制备工艺成本较低、可调性强等优势,因此在理论上和实验上都获得了积极广泛的研究.本文从有效介质近似出发,计算以带壳颗粒为基本结构单位构成的颗粒阵列结构的负折射性能,重点探讨了此结构中主要几何参数与材料参数对体系的有效折射率的影响.计算结果表明,通过选取合适的几何参数与材料参数,此类结构可在一定频段范围内同时获得良好的负折射率及较高的品质因子,从而为材料设计的性能优化提供了良好的理论指导.

Abstract

An array of coated spheres is one of the important designs to achieve metamaterial with negative refractive index. Compared with other types of metamaterials (such as those based on split ring or nanowires) , such a structure with specified material and geometric parameters has advantage of lower design procedure cost and better tunability, intriguing extensive theoretic and experimental studies. In this paper the effects of the main geometric and material parameters on the optical properties of this structure are investigated based on the effective medium approximation. The results from the calculation show that, by selecting the appropriate geometry and material parameters, such a structure can achieve a negative index of refraction and high quality factor in a certain frequency range simultaneously, which provides a good theoretical guidance for the optimization of the design of these metamaterials.
