The academic symposium"'Common Appreciation of the Elite and the Mass':Literature and Culture Research"sponsored by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Fudan University to discuss many cutting-edge issues in the literary study of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.The participating scholars used different materials such as classic literary texts,newspapers and periodicals,diaries,local chronicles,and folklore to outline the complex literary ecology and media environment,and expanded the literary research methods of the late Qing and the Republic of China from multiple perspectives such as space,media,narrative,translation,and sensory.The conference advocated deepening the research horizon and theoretical construction of the literature during the late Qing and the Republic of China based on the principles of common appreciation of the elite and the mass,and the multi-dimensional vision.
