What is"Woman"?Why"Female"Narrative?:A Glimpse into the Novel and Television Adaptation of Solitary Love
Bai Xianyong's novel Solitary Love and the television adaptation by Cao Ruiyuan,also titled Solitary Love,practice the aesthetics of repetition and diversity at the symbolic and realistic levels respectively.This is specifically manifested in the aspects of narration,characters,and details.The depiction and observation of women,especially lesbian women and their emotions,reveal different"female"narrative positions of Bai Xianyong and Cao Ruiyuan.The two authors use two media to construct their narrative missions through the narrative discourse of"I"and"the other"in the time-space of"the past"and"the present".
