CRISPR-associated 12f(Cas12f),known for its short protein sequence which facilitates gene delivery and subsequent gene therapy, has attracted widespread attention and an increasing number of research reports. This article systematically reviews the research progress of the gene editing system CRISPR(clustered regularly interspaced shortpalindromic repeats)/Cas12f and its derived gene editing tools including the structural features, protospacer adjacent motif(PAM)recognition and cutting mechanisms of Cas12f,as well as base editing and transcriptional regulation based on CRISPR/Cas12f,with the aim of providing references for further development of gene editing and therapeutic tools based on Cas12f.
