Underestimated Self——Research on Income Fluctuations of Middle-Income Group and Their Subjective Social Class Identification
As a pivotal force in society,the middle-income group can more effectively promote economic development and social stability when they subjectively identify with their social class.Based on CFPS data from 2010 to 2020,this article found that there was a significant phenomenon of lower-class identification among the middle-income group in China,and income fluctuations was an important factor contributing to this phenomenon.Mechanism analysis revealed that income fluctuations influenced subjective social class identification by altering future expectations,consumption structure,and concerns about inter-generational transmission.Moderating effects analysis showed that continuous membership in the middle-income group and the amount of household assets were important moderating variables.
